More Part Thievery

They say they're only borrowing, but I say differently. Ariel assured me that I'll get new or rebuilt parts to replace the voltage regulator and generator that Tom took from me yesterday. Ariel's sister's car had an electrical problem that needed to be fixed quickly, so I got to provide the replacement. Fortunately, the problem was solved with just the regulator and generator. A new regulator and a generator rebuild kit are on order.

Other than that, nothing much is happening as Tom is working hard on putting in a new kitchen. Their inattentiveness, however, has resulted in me springing a small gas tank leak. Tom will have to break out the JB Weld and plug the hole.

Night Driving Isn't Quite The Adventure It Once Was

Last night Tom installed three new lightbulbs (size 1816) to illuminate my dash. Everything worked. Three cheers for GM's 40+ year-old wiring and sockets. He also removed the dirty dome light cover and measured 12V at the bulb socket. Yeah again. A new dome light-bulb is added to the shopping list.

He then go out the 1500 and 2000 grit wet sandpaper and wet-sanded the new black paint. This was followed by hand polishing and waxing to try and blend the repaired area into the main paint. Not quite, but close enough.

Surface Rust Repair

In trying to stop the leaking at my back window, Tom finally decided he needed to address the surface rust that's all along the bottom portion of the window trim. Out came the wire brush, tiny screwdriver, and emory cloth. Off came the flakes of paint and rust. On went the masking tape to cover the stainless trim. That was followed by brush-applied Rusty Metal Primer.

Left to do is some light sanding with very fine sandpaper before laying down a few coats of gloss black. Then they'll finish with some more well-placed silicone to close off the last of the leaks.
